Based on English dramatist John Gay’s The Beggar's Opera, the stage show satires the inequality and corruption of a society dominated by capitalism 100 years ago in an odd while whimsical way. Employing multiple performing forms – including rap, rock & roll and even puppets – the play will grant its audience a rich and illuminating experience.

It might take another couple of years until Shanghai opens its own LEGOLAND theme park, but for the time being, brick-aholics can visit the LEGOLAND Discovery Center to get their fix. With attractions like a hands-on play area, jungle gyms and fun rides, this interactive play center inside the Changfeng Joy City makes a fantastic weekend destination for families to visit.

Aug 23-25: Junior Valley Ecologist

During the weekend of August 23-25, the Hong Kong-based Eco Education and Resources Center's environmental school will be hosting four special classes focusing on the exploration of Ningbo Valley in a way that's both fun and enjoyable for your little ones! The classes are specially tailored to kids aged 6-12 years old. They will learn things they can't learn anywhere else. By the end of the weekend, they'll have gained all sorts of knowledge that will even impress adults. The weekend excursion will be held at the beautiful Camphor Tree Valley in Lijiakeng Village, where visitors will spend two nights. Kids will get hands on experience and learn about the plants, forests and streams of Ningbo. They'll learn all sorts of factoids from how plants grow to how they are affected by climate change.

Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rice’s well-beloved 1978 West End musical is coming to Shanghai in early-mid September this year. Evita was conceived as a sung-through dramatic piece and ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ became the most popular single number from a show in many years. The production proved to be an artistic and popular success. This is a must-see show in Shanghai.

Sept 7: Pinocchio

Kids love the story of Pinocchio... and for good reason! Pinocchio will be brought to life in Shanghai this September. The play tells the story a puppet named Pinocchio, who was created out of wood by a man named Geppetto. However, Geppetto wished that his puppet could be a "real boy." His wish was magically granted by the Blue Fairy. The play will take your kids on an adventurous journey with Pinocchio, as he learns how to navigate the world in an honest and truthful way. Whenever Pinocchio does lie, his knowns grows longer and longer! Kids 3 and up are sure to be highly amused and entertained.

Sep 9-15: World Snooker Shanghai Masters 2019

The greatest snooker players from around the world are back in town as world number one Ronnie ‘The Rocket’ O’Sullivan bids to lift the Shanghai Masters trophy for the third year running. After becoming the richest invitation event in snooker history last year, expect arguably the most competitive field to date as the world’s top 16, plus eight players from China, fight it out for the prestigious trophy and for a share of the jaw-dropping RMB6 million plus prize fund. Running from September 9 to September 15, the Regal International East Asia Hotel will play host to one of the biggest events on the snooker calendar, with Chinese superstar Ding Junhui looking to win the competition for the third time in seven years.
