The Bauer Family, consisting of Tom, Hilda, Mary and James, had high expectations that Paulaner Brauhaus wasn’t all aboutbeer for Dad and they weren’t disappointed.

Things were off to a good start thanks to the spacious terrace area looking onto Minghua ship coupled with the kids’ menus – blue for boys and pink for girls. Immediately catching the young ones’ attention, Apfel Pizza (RMB48), with a sour dough base topped with sour cream, sugar and apples – is definitely one for the budding gourmands. The Kinder Burger (RMB52) was a must and the happy ketchup face on top of the patty was certainly a good choice. The German eatery has undoubtedly considered families on the rear of each menu
was a picture for kids to color, made possible by a children’s gift pack that includes coloring pens, a lollipop and a balloon.

For the adults, Tom enjoyed checking out the full in-house brewery that’s both functional and an aesthetic highlight. The beer is spot-on, with unfiltered Hefe-Weissbier (RMB48/0.3 liter) unleashing a clean, crisp and slightly fruity brew that tips its hat to the Germanic law of four ingredients: wheat, hops, yeast and water. Executive Chef Oliver Buentgen cooks up some hearty, beer-friendly food in the kitchen. Pork knuckle (RMB468), served with sauerkraut and potatoes, comes as a sizable lump of roasted meat with fantastic crackling. This works well with the Braumeister Brettl Jaus’n platter (RMB258) a large and varied serving of braised pork jelly, liver sausage, emmental cheese, farm house ham, Black Forest ham, bread and O’batza. With German size aplenty, the dishes combined can easily serve three people.

Paulaner Brauhaus is slick, enjoyable and theme-park authentic in a decent showing of across-the-board competence that caters for all the family.Wunderbar!
