13 Killer Happy Hours in Beijing
When I say “Killer Happy Hours,” I mean literally killer. Like you might die. Kidding (Kind of?!?): What I mean is that Beijing has strong drinks, at deadly prices. So beware. Here we’ve listed a few of our favorites.
1. The Tiki Bungalow
When it comes to tiki cocktail-making, Bartender Phil Tory has so many tricks up his sleeve we wonder how his (brightly colored, Hawaiian) shirt fits. Tory rotates drink selections each week that are buy-one-get-one until 9pm – last time we visited, pina coladas and his spin on cuba libres were on special.
2. Palms L.A. Kitchen and Bar
Palms has a different deal pretty much any day of the week – but the “TWO HANDS, TWO DRINKS” concept is our fave. From 5.30-8pm every Thursday, cocktails are two-for-one. Prepare to see double.
3. Jing-A Taproom
Get 10 kuai off any beer – OMG, make it the new Party Helles though, it’s so damn good – until 7pm on weekdays. On Mondays, follow the taproom’s official WeChat for a mima (that’s “password,” for you Mandarin-poor) that will get you a special deal all night.
4. Home Plate BBQ
Little-known fact: Home Plate has one of the most insane happy hour deals in town. From its opening at 11am until 7pm (hi, alcoholics!), the American hangout serves RMB15 well drinks, and will also take RMB10 off any beer you order.
5. Great Leap Brewing
Pints of RMB25 beers are available in different varieties and Great Leap locations each week – follow BJ_greatleapbrewing for the hoppy deets.
6. The Distillery
“Dress up nice, and the first round is on us” goes the tagline for what is arguably Beijing’s classiest happy hour: the Friday Classic. While the definition of ‘nice’ is up to the bartenders (promotional materials show dudes in suits), anybody, regardless of dress, can get RMB30 classic cocktails from 7-9pm.
7. Night & Nice
If you're looking for a tasty snack or meal to go with your tipple, look no further than Night & Nice. The cocktail maestros offer a 20% off cocktail and beer and food happy hour, between 5.30-9pm, daily. So, whether you're starting early or a little later, you can bet on Vince and the crew to keep you satisfied.
8. Arrow Factory
From 5-7pm, get RMB10 off your craft brews at Arrow Factory. (We dig their new rooftop, by the way.) Also, steins are mad cheap on WedSTEIN Wednesdays. Bring friends.
9. The Taco Bar
Buy any boozy drink and get a free taco – it’s that simple. A purchase of draught beer or a cocktail will get you one taco of your choice, all day Tuesday to Thursday or from 5-7pm Friday to Sunda.
10. Slow Boat Brewery Taproom
We love Slow Boat’s “25 Kuai Tuesdays.” Select beers for just RMB25 all Tuesday night.
11. MEI
Watch the sun go down over MEI’s “Sundown Doubles” – buy-one-get-one cocktails from 6-9pm. Pick any cocktail on the menu – you can’t go wrong.
12. The Local
Happy hours are so central to how The Local does its business that its happy hour prices are listed alongside the regular ones on the menu. Every day, 4-8pm is the magical time – but we also recommend checking them out on Wednesdays, when chicken wings go for RMB3 each with your drink purchase.
13. Modernista
Modernista’s cocktail happy hour sees its swing night classics, tiki cocktails and aperitifs go for just RMB35 from 7-9pm on weekdays.
