3 Easy Steps to Donating Your Old Clothes Via WeChat

Everyday you wake up, open your closet, and gaze at a pile of clothes that you no longer like nor wear. You might have a plethora of reasons why you still ‘need’ them, but realistically, you’ve both moved on. Maybe you’re tired of wearing them, or you’ve gained weight, or you’ve lost weight (kudos to you), or the garments are just out of season.

Regardless of the reason, Flying Ant has you covered. This interestingly named organization provides a clothing pickup service on WeChat, scheduling appointments to take your bag of old clothes right from your doorstep.

Flying Ant founder Ma Yun has built a sustainable business recycling old clothes, starting the company in Shanghai in 2014 before expanding to over 50 cities throughout China. Ma’s project appears to be making a real dfference, too. WeChat articles posted by the company contain a myriad of comments from people in heavy support of the business’ good deeds.

Flying Ant provides clothing pickup services free of charge for anyone looking to rid themselves of old shirts, pants, shorts, socks – you name it. Follow the three easy steps below to have Ma’s team help rid you of your unwanted wears:

1. Find Flying Ant on WeChat

Open WeChat and search for ‘Feimayi’ (飞蚂蚁), meaning ‘Flying Ant.’

2. Schedule a pickup time for your donation

After you follow their WeChat account, you’ll notice three tabs on the bottom of Flying Ant’s homepage. Click on the icon on the far right, ‘收旧衣,’ meaning ‘pick up old clothes,’ and then click the top tab ‘预约收衣,’ meaning ‘schedule your clothes pick-up,’ from the top-down list.

3. Complete your clothing pick up order

The next page will ask you for your address, pickup date, quantity of clothing (measured in kilograms) and any notes you would like to add. Once you fill in each area, your request will be submitted and a follow-up text message will inform you when your pick-up time has been approved. After that, leave your bag (or bags) of clothes outside your front door for a Flying Ant representative to collect.

The process really is as simple as that.

Of note: friends have told us that the company did not collected their recycled clothes because the combined weight of their donation was under 5 kilograms, so please keep that in mind and consider asking your neighbors or friends if they have any clothes that they’d also like to donate.
