Expect More Hot and Rainy Days in Shanghai This Summer
Shanghai is slated to see more hot and rainy days this summer compared to last year, reports Shine.
The city officially welcomed summer last week and the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau recently released its general forecast for the whole season, including temperatures, precipitation and typhoons.
According to the bureau, we will experience more extreme hot days with temperatures soaring over 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit) this year. Last year, we only had one such day where the temperature reached 37.7 degrees Celsius (99.86 degrees Fahrenheit). This year, there is a good chance that we will suffer up to eight days like this with highest temperature approaching 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit).
The precipitation will increase from last year’s 543.2 millimeters to 850 millimeters. In some areas of the city, there will be extreme weather such as thunderstorms, strong winds and torrential downpours as well.
Remember all those typhoons that hit the city last year? The good news is that the number of the typhoons coming to Shanghai this year will be cut in half. However, the typhoons that do impact Shanghai will be more intense. In the wake of this news, related departments have been asked to take precautions.
This year’s plum rain season will be slightly longer than previous years, said the bureau. Despite the fact that we still have a couple of weeks before the season arrives, we can already feel it coming as we experience fewer and fewer sunny days. In addition, the rainfall will gradually become more frequent. Here’s a glimpse for the weather of next few days.
