Starting today, both the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and the Shanghai Natural History Museum will no longer issue paper tickets. Instead, visitors now need to purchase their tickets online, reports Shine.

There are two ways for customers to get their tickets. They can either visit the official websites and WeChat accounts of the two museums or book through third-party platforms. Bookings require personal identity card information. For those who don’t possess local ID cards, they can provide their passport information instead if their destination is the Natural History Museum. Tickets can be ordered seven days in advance and each person can only book one ticket per day.

Of course, both museums have maintained special windows for those who have trouble ordering online. Foreigners who want to visit the Science and Technology Museum can also book on the site.

According to the museums’ announcement, the new policy aims to save visitors the hassle of queueing outside the venues. Meanwhile, by selling tickets online, they can better control the number of the visitors so that they are able to avoid unnecessary congestion and safety risks.

The Shanghai Science and Technology Museum started issuing online tickets back in 2016. Over the years, the new approach has been embraced by the residents of the city, granting the museums the confidence to completely replace the traditional ticketing.
