Bad Dog Owners May Soon Face Social Credit Point Deductions in Shanghai
Dog owners beware. The behavior of you and your dog may soon affect your social credit score.
While the exact details of the proposal have yet to be ironed out, Global Times is reporting that Shanghai Public Security Bureau are considering introducing the measurement as a new means to punishing bad and irresponsible dog owners in the city. The new scheme could also see dog owners listed as a laolai or a ‘dishonest person’ in extreme cases.
In nearby Hangzhou, rules were introduced this week whereby dog owners who do not follow the law or have badly-behaved pets will be slapped with fines of up to RMB5,000 (USD720) per pet.

The new proposal comes after a Japanese woman in Shanghai was attacked by a rottweiler, and incident which resulted in a crackdown on wrongly-registered ‘mixed breed’ dogs. Police in the city are aiming to clamp down on owners who register banned ‘ferocious dogs’ incorrectly as mixed breed dogs in order to keep them as pets. Such 'ferocious dogs' include rottweilers, German shepherds and different breeds of mastiffs and bulldogs.
