The longest-running Canadian musical in Broadway history, Come From Away, is coming to Shanghai. The show, which was a critical and box office success during its run on Broadway, tells the story of what happened when 38 international airplanes and more than 7,000 passengers were forced to land in Gander in Newfoundland after the September 11 attacks in 2001.

Produced by ACOrange, Junkyard Dog Productions and Rodney Rigby, the musical’s stop in China, from May 8-24 in 2020, will be its first production in a non-English speaking country.

Come From Away explores the clash of cultures that occurred in Gander, a town of just 10,000 people, when planes were forced to land in the town as US airspace was closed. Discussing trust, friendship, gratitude and more, Come From Away is a redemptive story that shines a light on human relationships.

Nominated for seven awards at the 2017 Tony Awards, Come From Away went on to win Best Direction of a Musical, while it also had success at the 2019 Laurence Olivier Awards after its successful run on the West End.
