Outside food was previously banned by the resort. However, public outcry, as well as a high-profile lawsuit, caused Shanghai Disney to reverse the rule. There were also numerous reports of aggressive and invasive behavior from security staff.

There are a few exceptions to the new food rule. For example, all food must be in proper containers, cannot be cooked or prepared on-site and must be consumed by the guest. Anything that needs to be heated or reheated – such as instant noodle bowls or hot pot – will not be allowed. In addition, smelly foods, such as durian, will not be allowed in the park.

Visitors can still bring some bottled drinks into the resort, as long as they aren't alcoholic or in cans or glass containers. Exceptions will be made for jars of baby food.

The new food and security rules were announced by Andrew Bolstein, Senior Vice President of Operations of Shanghai Disney Resort.

“Guests are encouraged to open their own bags and remove any flagged items and return items themselves when the security screening is completed,” said Bolstein. “The staff will no longer reach their hands into the guests’ bags.”

Anyone who brings banned items to Shanghai Disney will be allowed to store them in lockers for a fee of RMB10 (USD1.41) per item.
