Here’s Which Roads Will Close This Weekend for Shanghai Marathon

The Shanghai International Marathon takes place this Sunday, November 17, which means several streets will be closed off this weekend to make way for the runners. A total of 38,000 runners are expected to compete in the full marathon, 10-kilometer fun run and mini marathon.

Below are detailed road closure times, during which all vehicles — including buses — will be banned. You may have spotted signs around the city already this week indicating when the runners will be coming through.

  • Midnight to 7.45am on Sunday: Suzhou Nan Lu, Beijing Dong Lu, Dianchi Lu, Nanjing Dong Lu, Hankou Lu, Jiujiang Lu (between Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu and Jiangxi Zhong Lu on the Bund)

  • 5-7.45am: Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu (between Waibaidu Bridge and Xinkaihe Lu)

  • 5-7am: Jiangxi Zhong Lu (between Fuzhou Lu and Beijing Dong Lu)

  • 6.30-7.45am: Yan’an Gaojia off-ramp at Jiangxi Lu, Yan’an Dong Lu (between Zhonshan Dong Yi Lu and Jiangxi Zhong Lu)

  • 6.30-8.30am: Yandang Lu (between Huaihai Zhong Lu and Fuxing Park)

  • 7-8.30am: Yan’an Gaojia off-ramp at Huashan Lu 

  • 7.15-9am: North-South Elevated Road off-ramp at Huaihai Lu

  • 8.30am-1pm: Yunjin Lu exit of the Longyao Lu Tunnel

And finally, from 7am to 1.30pm, other streets along the race course will also be closed.

All three races start along the Bund, with security and bib check opening at 5.30am on Sunday and roll call starting at 6am. Expect warm, cloudy weather on race day, with Shine reporting maximum temperatures of 24 degrees Celcius on Sunday.
