Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901), the French painter and pioneer of modern poster design and lithograph art, will make a grand appearance in the Aurora Museum with his world tour exhibition, a modern artistic feast to entertain the Chinese audience, from December 24, 2022 to April 7, 2023.

“Ethereal Life in Paris: A World Tour Exhibition with Henri de Toulouse Lautrec”(Shanghai) is sponsored by Beijing Wisdom Art & Culture Co., Ltd, Aurora Museum, and Beijing Eric Culture Group Co., Ltd, and receives vigorous support from the French Consulate General in Shanghai,Shanghai International Culture Association. It is co-sponsored by Shenzhen Kingdom Culture, Sports and Technology Co., Ltd and Pan Art; Co-organized by China Eric (Beijing) Culture Exchange Co., Ltd,. as well as supported by The Museum Box and Culture and Science and Technology Committee of China National Interior Decoration Association.

This exhibition marks the most systematic collection of Lautrec, including nearly 120 sets and more than 230 precious objects related to the artist like representative posters (Jane Avril au Jardin de Paris, Divan Japonais, and Eldorado: Aristide Bruant), books, magazines, and music score covers and illustrations, and valuable manuscripts recording his creative ideas, personal letters, and old photos, as well as personal belongings and letters of Aristide Bruant and Yvette Guilbert, two of his favorite artists. They completely present the prosperous Paris recorded by Lautrec, the “soul of Montmartre”, with a pen stroke. Modern Shanghai and modern Paris will collide here transcending time and space.

The exhibition was supported by Professor Wang Jia, Honorary Curator of the Liechtenstein Museum, in an academic way. It includes four sections: “ Paris moderne”, “Crépuscule à Montmartre”, “Le monde de Toulouse-Lautrec”, and “La vie est un rêve”. To help people integrate into and experience the artist’s era, background, and works, a special program will be launched to lead viewers to return to the night in Paris at the end of the 19th century through Live Action Role Playing games. In Montmartre and Moulin Rouge in those years, they may taste the artist’s absinthe-like life.

One hundred years later, Moulin Rouge remains one of the most famous scenic spots in Paris today, and a hot scene for film, television, painting, and other artistic creation, to which the vivid works of Lautrec have also contributed a lot. Following the exhibition “From Courbet, Corot to Impressionism: World of Light and Shadow from Normandy, France”, “Ethereal Life in Paris: A World Tour Exhibition with Henri de Toulouse Lautrec” boasts another important original exhibition organized by Beijing Wisdom Art & Culture Co., Ltd. to sort out the history of Impressionism and post-Impressionism.
