Unique in its depth and comprehensiveness, Jiahui Health's annual healthcare summer program for high school students is now open for applications.

The Jiahui Health Scholar Program provides an immersion in a truly international medical environment and enables students to acquire the skills and knowledge that will give them a head-start if they wish to pursue a career related to medicine or life sciences.

What is the Jiahui Health Scholar Program?

Career choices are made early in life and high school students are faced with many questions when it comes to choosing their future career paths. Jiahui Health believes that getting first-hand experience in the field of interest is the best way to enable students to make informed decisions about their future studies and the career they hope to pursue.

For students interested in a healthcare career, Jiahui Health offers the exclusive opportunity to complete a 2-week Health Scholar Program at Jiahui International Hospital. Working alongside and shadowing Jiahui's team of international healthcare professionals, students will be able to experience different departments within a healthcare institution and gain an understanding of how they interact to deliver excellent patient care.

Key components

Foundational training

Apart from providing the students with all the information they need to make the most of their health scholar experience and to thrive in the hospital environment, the Orientation Module includes a comprehensive 3-hour training in First Aid and CPR.

Medical workshops

Led by Jiahui's senior physicians, the students will participate in four hands-on workshops where they will be taught practical skills across a range of medical specialties. Lasting between 2-3 hours, each workshop is an in-depth training experience allowing students to understand and apply skills required by the profession.

Department rotation

According to their preferences, students select three medical departments and will rotate between them over the course of two weeks. During their stay at each department, they will shadow and work alongside our doctors, nurses and administrative staff to get a unique first-hand experience of their daily work.

Departments include:

● Dentistry

● ENT

● Family Medicine

● Internal Medicine

● Laboratory

● Medical Imaging

● Nutrition

● Pediatrics

● Pharmacy

● Surgery

Physician lunches

Every program round includes at least four lunchtime sessions where the students will meet with department chiefs and physician leaders from different medical specialties, during which they get first-hand career advice as well as invaluable insights into the nature and challenges that are unique to each specialty.

Graduation

In presence of Jiahui's physician leadership, the students present and share their key experiences and findings before being awarded an official certificate of completion. In addition to the certificate, a limited number of students per program round will be issued a recommendation letter for their university/college application signed by a senior US board-certified physician (depending on performance).

Friendships for life

Each program cohort is a diverse mix of international and local students from across China and abroad, all sharing a common interest in medicine. The program presents a unique opportunity for students to meet like-minded peers and forge lasting friendships beyond their own school community.

Target audience:

High school students.

Costs:

RMB 5,500/person.

The program fee includes daily lunch allowances.

Duration:

Two weeks (ten working days, Monday to Friday).

Language:

Bilingual - English/Chinese.

Availability:

There will be a total of three program rounds taking place during July and August 2023.

A maximum of 15 health scholars are accepted per program round. Candidates will be chosen based on their application, their interest in healthcare, and their interview performance.

Please note, participation in the orientation day is compulsory and students are required to complete the orientation in the company of one of their parents. The orientation takes place on the Saturday or Sunday before the program start and runs from 9 am to approximately 2 pm.

Eligibility

Students must be studying at accredited high schools at the time of application. There is no pre-requisite course requirement.
